Bite Me! Impending Name Change
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 01, 2019 at 09:27:30 PM

Hello Packmates!

So this is an unusual update but it looks like I'll be changing the name of Bite Me!

I've been contacted by a small independent card game company and asked to change the name of my game.  Since I started writing and blogging about Bite Me! they have registered a trade mark in 'Bite-me'.

Although their trade mark is not the same as my title (and they hold it in a different product classification) I have taken legal advice and the upshot is that it would really be a bit of a toss up who would win in court.  I don't believe in wasting energy and money on things that don't have value to me - and holding on to the name of Bite Me! (as lovely as it is) isn't worth it.  I'm far more interested in getting this book into your hands than I am interested in arguing about a pretty common name for games with Werewolves in!  That is where I want to spend my energy.

So this is really a short post to warn you that the name of Bite Me! will be changing in the near future.  My current list of alternatives are:

  • With Teeth
  • We are Pack
  • Bite Marks

I know which one is my favourite (I'm keeping it under my hat for now) but if you have a cool idea (that isn't a registered trade mark) then please put it in the comments below and I'll add it to the list!

Changing the name won't really add any significant time to getting the book out and I'm currently working down a pretty short list of things to get ready to go to the printers.  But I'll keep you all posted as we go :)

September Update
over 4 years ago – Mon, Sep 16, 2019 at 07:24:47 PM

Hello Packmates,

I'm back after the Summer break which was spent running my kids around the Peak District and eating cucumbers and courgettes from our veg patch.

But work on Bite Me! continued apace.  All the art is now done and so is the bulk of the copyediting and layout - we are on the final tweaks to the main document.

All that is left is to finalise the Essay from Kate (which is waiting on me!) and the completion of the index pages (also waiting on me!) and then I'll be finalising the arrangements with the printer and gearing up for the final backer kit survey.

The end is in sight and thank you all for your patience!

Bite Me! is in layout already!

Hello Packmates!

It has been a busy Summer so far at Black Armada HQ.  We've had a birthday this month, we finished building a polytunnel and are about to eat our first cucumbers and Bite Me! has been progressing really well.

This is where we are:

  • Less than a week ago I had a couple of hours in a meeting with Elizabeth Lovegrove who is now eyeball deep in laying out the document.
  • Both scenarios are also finished and copyedited.
  • I've reviewed the outline for Kate Bullock's essay and it is looking great.
  • Helen Gould was kind enough to look over the playbooks and do some sensitivity reading on making the playbook options more diverse.
  • There are only 5 pieces of art left to go and 3 of those are in progress.

Things have been moving so well that I've even started getting my ISBN numbers and barcodes lined up and I'm about to take a good estimate of my page numbers to my printer to start firming up numbers and a timetable at their end.

So this is a pretty short update - but only because things are moving along nicely and even a little ahead of where I thought I'd be.  Keep those fingers crossed for me :)

Things are moving along nicely!

Hello Packmates

This is a quick message to let you know how things are going!

The main text has been ruthlessly and brilliant copyedited by Mo who has wrangled it all into something much more readable (anyone with a raw copy will be grateful to hear that I'm sure!) and it will be going to layout over the Summer.

Almost all of Morrighan's art is finished and ready to go in.  Vincent's pieces are bigger and more complex but he has completed a good chunk of them and is working through some of the backer art rewards.

The scenarios are both written in draft form and I have to edit them (very excited about both of them!) and I've got an outline for the essay which is sitting with me to progress.

Backers who chose the Sigil reward - I have sent you all a message about this but only two people have responded so far.  Whitney has completed those two sigils and I'll be hunting down the rest of you so be warned!

To thank you all for being so patient I've included one of my favourite, completed pieces from Vincent, below.

Making progress and some exciting news!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 29, 2019 at 10:02:54 PM

Hello Packmates!

It has been a busy month since I last wrote to you but we are making excellent progress with the game.

The game text is returned from my (ever-patient) copy editor and I'm about to start making his suggested amendments and improvements so that the final game text is as good as possible.

Art is also going beautifully. My artists have finished 6 images so far between them and they look amazing.

If you backed at the art and sigil levels - I'll be getting in touch with you in the week or so to talk more with you about the details of your particular pledges.

Now for the exciting bit!  We were so close to hitting Kelley Armstrong's stretch goal that after checking the numbers and without using the extra art budget I can confirm that Kelley Armstrong's scenario is going ahead!

I didn't mention in my last update but I'm planning on updating you all monthly with progress - I'm hoping that hits the sweet spot of keeping you informed without spamming you.
